Lindsey Wilkes|Managing Partner

Lindsey Wilkes focuses her practice on humanitarian, family, and employment-based immigration matters before the U.S. immigration courts, the Board of Immigration Appeals, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), and U.S. Consulates abroad. Ms. Wilkes has extensive experience representing survivors of violence and torture and is a two-time fellowship recipient based on her commitment to human rights.

Prior to law school, Ms. Wilkes started a nonprofit, GENed, worked to educate the public about genocide and crimes against humanity, and lobbied for political change. She was also a founding board member of the Darfur Action Group of SC, which lobbied local and national leaders and built a constituency of more than 5,000 anti-genocide advocates in the state of South Carolina. Because of her work, she was chosen as a Carl Wilkens Fellow with the Genocide Intervention Network (the fellowship is now a part of i-ACT), where she continued her work to change how the world responds to crimes against humanity.

Ms. Wilkes has a Juris Doctor from the University of Cincinnati College of Law, where she was an Arthur Russell Morgan Human Rights Fellow. While in law school, Ms. Wilkes represented survivors of domestic violence in court, interned at the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, and worked on multiple international human rights cases and civil rights cases during her time with Schonbrun, DeSimone, Seplow, Harris & Hoffman.

Prior to founding Kayi & Wilkes PLLC, Ms. Wilkes worked as a consultant and contract attorney on domestic violence and criminal defense cases. She also serves as a pro bono immigration attorney with the Torture Abolition and Survivors Support Coalition (TASSC), where she has provided more than 200 hours of legal services for torture survivors seeking asylum.

Ms. Wilkes is a member of the Maryland Bar Association, Virginia Bar Association, the Women’s Bar Association of D.C., and the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA). Ms. Wilkes graduated magna cum laude from Columbia College with a Bachelor of Arts in both business administration and communication.

Ms. Wilkes is admitted to practice in Maryland and Virginia.
